SMILE Online Information System, NHS Lothian
SMILE is a new online resource to support health professionals and their partners in communicating with and supporting patients. I have written core materials for the system including 18 briefing sheets for staff so they can signpost patients (for example volunteering, welfare benefits, local libraries; and 32 checklists to help staff overcome communication barriers when working with patients (for example visual impairment, hearing impairment, stroke). The materials are based on interviews with key agencies and information provided by service users.
